Missions Trip: Newport, Tennessee — July 2007

…news sent from Roy Becker

When I was at Kids Club I really learned what poverty is. There was this great little kid named Jesse. He is going to be in second grade next year. When I was talking to him I learned a lot. He loves baseball but the only equipment he has is a plastic bat and a whiffle ball. Back at my house I have about six baseball mitts that I don’t even use any more. It just made me realize how much they really don’t have.

God has taught me to not instruct the kids at Kids Club, but instead LOVE them, like God loves us. I also realized the smallest things make the hugest difference.

The kids have been working at a full schedule from 7am to 11:15pm. In spite of being on the tired edge they have been working well together and have been great with the local kids. We see the difference we are making in the smiles on the local kids and home owners.

Pooling your resources really makes the difference.

I learned that if you belong to the world that the world will love you, but you don’t. God chose us to come to the world to be different than the world, so the world doesn’t like us.
